Detective Carol McCloskey partners up with mobster Dannel Pappas to race against the clock and the potential threat aimed at four-year-old Harrison George Preston and three-year-old twins Jeremy and Gwen McCloskey. They must also work together to find Gloria and Genevieve Pappas who are missing. Did Dannel’s wife follow the plan to run? Or did someone take her and their daughter? Are their disappearances linked to the threat made against the children? Together McCloskey and Pappas must determine where the threats are coming from and find a way to stop them.
Hi! My name is Julie Cordova. I am the author of The Other Side of the Rainbow, the first book in the Carol McCloskey series. The phrase ‘there’s no place like home’ had dark connotations in the first book - think a sullen Modern Family meets a combination of Silence of the Lambs or True Detective.
The Other End of the Lie, the sequel to The Other Side of the Rainbow, which is slated to publish in the fall of 2024 has the feel of a maze or perhaps being trapped in a pinball machine. It too combines the feel of Silence of the Lambs and True Detective but this time instead of Modern Family, I’d compare it to the show 24. When things are happening so fast, Carol must make the quickest and best decision possible in the situation and worry about the what ifs and other options later.
The Other Side of the Rainbow dealt with unconditional love inside a family, and I have had some very intriguing conversations with readers about their own experiences and what the book meant to them. My hope for those reading The Other End of the Lie is to explore the willingness to kill or die to protect the ones we love? And if we are willing to kill or die for them, are we also willing to live with them and for them? Are we willing to talk to them and forgive?
Even though I write suspense novels with complex mystery driven plots, I see books as an opportunity to think about hard topics like equality, autonomy, and faith and to embrace the wonderful diversity of the human experience. The Other Side of the Rainbow gives you the chance to learn alongside Carol and her family about the importance of forgiveness and the beauty of unconditional love. The Other End of the Lie will give you the chance to fight alongside her and face any obstacle that comes at her to save others.
You will love this book if you love old-school suspense thrillers like the Kay Scarpetta series by Patricia Cornwell and family dramas with mysteries like The Making of Us by Lisa Jewel or The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid.
Because fiction themes often tackle real-life issues, The Other Side trilogy speaks to readers who may grapple with tough conflicting issues in their own families.
Ultimately, I hope my books are books people want to talk about and want to share with others. I am thrilled at the reception of my debut novel and hope this follow-up satisfies the questions: When is the next book coming out? And what happens to everyone? Does Ray stay with Carol? Are the children safe? Can they ever be safe again? Does Lane’s deception get uncovered, or does he just get away with it? And more… I also hope readers will enjoy it as much as they enjoyed meeting Carol and her family and Dannel and his mob in book one.
I first opened up an author community during the editing process of The Other Side of the Rainbow thanks to the direction and encouragement of my publisher.
Inside the community participants were able to read early chapters, help pick out the book cover, and more.
My goal is to make the journey fun for you and me and at the end - we get to celebrate the book.
As a community member your name will appear in the book's acknowledgements section, you'll get access to live Q & A sessions, book signings, celebration parties, and opportunities to get gifts.
The Other End of the Lie is written in three ACTS, with multiple point-of-view characters and a quick pace.
My goal is to make the story feel like the reader has entered a maze where one is not only being chased but is hoping to catch another as well.
ACT I: Alliances are made between the web of characters.
ACT II: Carol gets a chance to put her investigative skills to use.
ACT III: Time runs out and the potential threats become real.

The Other Side of the Rainbow was published in 2023.
Since its release, it has received positive reviews from readers. I've also been encouraged on social media, and in private texts from others who had just finished reading the book.
Each of those reviews or encouraging comments pushed me to finish book two with enthusiasm.
Writing a book is like playing in the sandbox during recess. I loved recess as a child and as a grown up girl - I still want to know that make believe has a place in my life.
Do you feel the same way?
"I love this book!"
"Its a love letter to Denver! The action starts and never stops"
"OMG! When will I find out what happens?!!! I'm in Cabo on vacation. I started the book on Tuesday on the plane and finished in 3 and 1/2 days (I am a slow reader normally) It was very, very, hard to put down."
"Fantastic Read!"
For The Other End of the Lie, I was hoping to work with the same revisions editor, Kehkashan Khalid, of The Other Side of the Rainbow and I am pleased to announce:
She and I are teaming up for books two and three. We both agreed that we work well together and we both wanted the flavor and feel of the next two books to remain true to the first.
Kehkashan is a talented editor, who works hard to develop a book readers can enjoy, she is also an artist, and she may create the cover for the books as well.
I am lucky enough to be active in several writing communities and through those communities I have met independent editors and publishers So, I was able to put together a great team to include a proofreader and an experienced publisher to format the book.
When you join my author community, you’ll get early excerpts of the work we are doing, a chance to meet the team via a recorded live event, and access to the pre-edited opening scene of the manuscript!
I will forever be indebted to the participants in the making of The Other Side of the Rainbow. Not only did those author community members fund the publishing costs, but their participation also gave me an audience I was very motivated to entertain and surprise.
The wall separating him from the interior of Efrem Spinelli’s home office felt like a dam holding back reality. A flood of questions pushed against that barrier, but Dannel Pappas needed it to hold a little longer. His back brushed against the maze like pattern of the fleur-de-lis wallpaper as his hips kissed the wainscotting. After a slow breath, he peeked through the opening near the hinge at the back of the office door. Kit McCloskey, a an Dannel had pushed to the brink, raised a gun toward Efrem Spinelli’s chest, “And my children?” Kit yelled. “Why would you send goons to after them?”
